UKIP version française?
The corridors of the European Parliament are abuzz with rumours that the 24 UMP MEPs may abandon the EPP to join forces with the EFD in order to “mieux défendre la gloire de la France.”
Incensed by Commission Vice-President Reding’s calling to account of “la patrie” over a “simple petit memo d’un simple membre du cabinet,” the deputies are determined to restore the honour of a founder nation after what many consider nothing less than a case of lèse-majesté by a representative of a country that one French MEP was heard describing as “plus petit qu’un département, à peine plus grand qu’un arrondissement.”
Meanwhile, the Brussels Jungle has heard that UKIP spokesman Gawain Towler has been summoned to the Elysée Palace to advise the French president on communication strategy for this week’s European Council. This shouldn’t be too much of a challenge for the doughty defender of national prerogatives: indignation is spelt the same in French.

Don’t forget that the doughty Daul would be gone too, with the EPP forced to elect a new leader.
