Strange lobbyist spotted in Berlaymont area
Lobbyists come in all shapes and forms: that is known fact. But the latest addition to the EU bubble certainly stands out by its profile: red trousers, small voice and large ears…No, not Pee Wee Herman, but Mickey Mouse has joined the Interest Representatives (aka lobbyists) Register of the European Commission, as evidenced here and in the screenshot below (click on screenshot for larger view).
Mickey Mouse enterprises seems to be quite a daring advocacy NGO, as it has its headquarters at the Berlaymont (200 rue de la Loi), which should make outreach to Commissioners and their Cabinets really handy. Moreover, although the reported staff in the register is “1″ it is unclear if the CEO, Mr Mouse, is likely to be joined in the near future by either Mr Duck or Mr Goofy.
The BJ can only wish Mr Mickey Mouse the best of luck in obtaining what he wants in the Magic Castle of Berlaymont, and hope his organisation reaches its stated goal as reported in its official submission to the European Commission’s register: “To make money”. After all, isn’t that what life as a lobbyist is all about?
Editor’s note: Dear civil servants at the Commission: it is becoming extremely difficult for the BJ reporters to go over the top and be creative in our stories when you allow reality to surpass anything we could have invented. This could obviously lead to a case of abuse of dominant power seeing your size opposed to ours, but we are willing to consider this as a “one off” occurrence.
