Sunday Roundup
Another fascinating week at the BJ, with exclusives and breaking news alerts nearly every day. It started with the unsettling news of Club Med’s decision to apply rules to its guests, something that certainly convinced this editor to take their business elsewhere if confirmed! I mean, who ever heard of rules at Club Med? But rules are obviously a popular thing in Brussels, and rumour has it that the European Commission may be considering mandating the burqa as the thing to wear in certain circumstances. Equally worrying in terms of rules are those being considered by the newly appointed UK Coalition government, where “no sex” could be the next bumper sticker for Ministers going to Brussels. Finally, a bit of non-EU political news made it to the headlines, with the opposition of Iceland to Paddy Ashdown’s rumoured appointment as European Special Envoy for the Balkans, and the real reason behind the resignation of the Japanese Prime Minister. But no BJ week would be complete without a bit of Belgian surrealism, which translated into our undercover story regarding the secret plan of the Flemish political party N-VA to use Mozart in its approach to “confederalism”.
