The harsh reality behind the Brussels journalists drain

An increasingly empty Berlaymont press room

The Press has been full of it: the Brussels number of accredited journalists has been dramatically shrinking over the past years, going from 1300 accredited reporters in 2005 to 752 today, according to the Economist‘s Charlemagne blog.

Many theories have been put forward for this decrease: the crisis affecting the newspaper sector, the excess of ready-to-use material produced by the Eu institutions combined with teh possibility to follow everything in live-stream from one’s capital city desk, the fact that Europe is simply not appealing enough, that Belgium is an administrative nightmare, etc. The Association de la Presse Internationale (API) even came up with a set of proposals to stop the massive exile.

But the BJ reporters have uncovered the truth after several weeks of relentless investigation. And we have done even better: we have collected the evidence in video, thanks to footage recorded by EUXTV.

The reality is often mores startling than speculation. The TRUTH BEHIND THE BRUSSELS JOURNO DRAIN IS SIMPLY THIS:

THEY ARE F**** BORED!

Guess that’s yet another exclusive uncovered by the BJ team!
