Massive crack-down on Argentinean sheep
On 13 April, the Argentinean police announced the capture of two convicts who escaped from jail by disguising themselves as sheep (as reported by the Telegraph). The two convicts were able to hide from the 300 policemen searching for them for more than a week by dressing in full sheepskin fleeces with realistic looking heads.
The news appeal of this story would have ended if an unexpected twist had not occurred over the weekend, with over twenty sheep being placed under arrest by the police for “aiding and abetting” the two fugitives. The arrest was made under the coverage of the local press and required 525 policemen and a full SWAT team to intervene on the scene, as it was expected the sheep would resist arrest.
A spokesperson of the police stated that “Initially, we believed that the sheep were just used by the convicts and had nothing to do with the entire incident. However, our investigation has shown that a number of sheep were actively involved in the “camouflage” operation, probably due to the romantic involvement of two sheep with the fleeing criminals”. The sheep were unwilling to comment officially but one of them, Dolly, did say “I do hope they will let me sit my term with Max…Beeeeee”.
