Apple celebrates Schuman with euPad

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Schuman declaration, Apple is launching a version of its iPad specially tailored for Europe. Visitors this Sunday to the Rond Point that bears the name of the revered “father of Europe” will be the first to get their hands on the new euPad.

Sleep function may induce nightmares.

According to a draft Commission press release, Steve Jobs will give a virtual demonstration of how the device brings the European Union to life with an iEU app that includes multi-lingual historical material and an interface that even makes browsing the Europa website enjoyable.

The euPad also includes a special sleep function: Richard Corbett explaining the advantages of the Lisbon Treaty. Eurosceptics may prefer to disable this feature.

Rumours are circulating that it will not be possible to install apps for certain publications such as the Wall Street Journal, the Daily Telegraph and Bloomberg. Also, some YouTube channels may be blocked, notably those of MEPs Nigel Farage and Daniel Hannan.

A source at Apple told the BJ that these restrictions will demonstrate to critics in the US what a closed system really looks like, and provide useful learnings in the preparation of a device for the more important Chinese market.
