Massive Chinese political gambling scam uncovered
The Chinese have been famous for their addiction to gambling and their tendency to rig the results of major and minor sports events, notably in the soccer world. It has become a fact that organised crime has been manipulating soccer matches through commercial bribery of virtually everyone who influenced a game, in order to obtain huge profits through offshore betting.
But a recent inquiry by Europol uncovered a new area in which the Chinese gambling maffia has decided to spread its wings: betting on the appointment of politicians and the results of election.
The scam was uncovered after the police intercepted a series of emails between leading Chinese maffia bosses and senior officials active in the Council of the European Union, in which discussions occurred about the fact that the betting odds on an appointment of the Belgian Herman Van Rompuy alongside the British Catherine Ashton at the key EU functions of President of the European Council and High Representative were 567 to 1 and that this meant that if the appointments were to be made, the benefits of a bet would be higher than the sum of all bets over the past ten years, making it a unique win.
Europol did not want to comment on the possibility that the appointments were effectively rigged but did warn the UK and the Netherlands to “keep a watchful eye on odd outcomes of elections”.
A spokesperson of the Belgian government said that as regards their elections, a normal outcome would be the likely trigger of an inquiry.

It’s a good job politicians don’t actually control anything important, like the economy.
