European Parliament goes into cruising mode

The Segway PT (Personal Transporter) failed to catch our MEPs attention, and therefore didn’t make it as the primary means of transportation through the labyrinth of the European Parliament. But now, almost a decade later, Honda’s R&D department offers them a second chance to set this urgent matter of internal transportation straight once and for all. So that our MEPs and their assistants can start embracing the future of personal transportation at the heart of Europe.
Behold Honda’s vision of the future. A future wherein the act of walking will be strictly limited to and reserved for the visits to the European Parliament Sports Centre. The U3-X Personal Mobility Device, with its HOT Drive System, an omni-directional driving wheel, limits body movement to installing yourself on the foldable seat and retractable footrests and leaning into the desired direction. In compliance with the best practices in the hallways of Brussels, it even goes sideways and diagonally, because in Brussels everything is not as straightforward as it seems to be.
Moreover, weighing only a mere 22 pounds, or the equivalent of give or take 14 iPads, it’s even suitable to survive the trips back and forth to the 12 annual plenary sessions in Strasbourg. And a fully charged battery provides them with an operation time of 1 hour. But with our MEPs rushing from one meeting to another will this be enough? Mr Buzek, the President of the European Parliament, stated to the BJ that he “will not let his MEPs, nor their assistants, running out of juice”, and plans to equip the meeting rooms with charging points.
Can you imagine our beloved MEPs cruising around side by side on their U3-Xs through the hallways of the European Parliament?And then just think of what engines the lobbyists will have to use to catch them!
