Another incident at Disneyland as Lord Mandelson is refused access
It was supposed to be a mix of a holiday and PR stunt for Lord Mandelson, the Labour heavyweight and UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, with only a few weeks left before the UK elections. But, the security guards of Disney thought otherwise, as they told the Lord he would not be admitted because his demeanour and looks made him look too much like a Disney bad guy,an assessment confirmed by the fact that many of his entourage kept on calling him “The Prince of Darkness”. The security guards confirmed shortly afterwards that they considered their judgement no to let Mandelson in was strengthened by the fact that “the chap kept on telling us he was Baron Mandelson, of Foy in the County of Herefordshire and of Hartlepool in the County of Durham in a really creepy threatening tone.”
Mandelson and his entourage refused to confirm that the incident took place, merely stating that Lord Mandelson cancelled the theme park visit due to more pressing issues, but reporters on the scene were able to report back on the exchange.
Disneyland confirmed it had a global policy banning adults from wearing fancy dress in their theme parks, as already indicated by a previous incident that took place when a mother dressed as a princess was asked to change clothes before entering the park.
A spokesman said: ‘No one over the age of nine is allowed to enter our theme parks in fancy dress. It prevents confusion.’ A spokesman for the UK government confirmed to the BJ that Gordon Brown has written to Disneyland demanding an apology, and to the French President Sarkozy to share his disbelief.
