New Presidential double act talk of Brussels

EU presidential duo to emulate UK kings of comedy.

The Presidents of the European Commission and European Council have rejected calls by WTO chief Pascal Lamy to “speak with one mouth” at the next gathering of the G20 by each covering different topics and not both speaking on the same topic.

In a bid to keep cumulative speech time down while retaining the equality of coverage important for institutional harmony, they are opting for joint delivery. Following the muted success of their first show in February, they have been practicing hard in the hope of emulating the British comedy duo Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise. Henceforth they will be representing the EU at international meetings as José Morecomm and Hermy Why’s he here too?

Apparently the inspiration came from noticing that the EU’s economic prospects are now starting to resemble those of the UK in the seventies.
