Greeks are lazy coach potatoes, says EU study

No money and no sports...

Europe seems to have no qualms about hitting a man when he is down: after putting Greece through several European Council meetings and press conferences, the European Commission published today its Eurobarometer Survey on Sport and Physical Activity.

In its press release, the Commission points out that “the survey reveals large disparities among Member States. Citizens of the Nordic countries are the most active in the EU while citizens of Mediterranean countries and the 12 new Member States tend to exercise less than the EU average.”

But what truly jumps out of the study is that 67% of Greeks do absolutely no physical activity (or at least none that seems to qualify as “sports” by EU standards).

When quizzed about the timing of the release of a study that points yet again the finger towards Greece, a spokesperson replied that the Commission did not see alink between the fact that Greeks were both broke and lazy.

The ambassador of Greece did not wish to comment.
